Inverter Validation Engineer – Electric Center of Excellence

Who we are:

Garrett Advancing Motion’s Electric Center of Excellence (eCOE) is looking for an experienced         Inverter Validation Engineer to support development of high-speed electric turbochargers, turbo compressors and motor controllers.

The eCOE is charged with creating complex electric boosting solutions to meet increasingly stringent automotive regulations while still satisfying customer demands for performance and drivability.  We are building a world class group that designs, develops and launches state of the art electric machines coupled to our market leading turbocharger technologies. These products will span vehicles from passenger cars to heavy duty commercial vehicles and include conventional and hybrid powertrains as well as fully electric fuel cell vehicles. By leveraging our aerospace and motorsports experience and heritage with high-power / high-speed electric motor technology, we lead the world in automotive boosting electrification.  Garrett Advancing Motion is launching the first automotive production high speed electric compressor that, in addition to including one of the highest power density electric motors placed into automotive production, including the first automotive use of air foil bearings.  To continue this momentum, we are growing our agile team of global experts to lead new technology development.

Main Objectives:  

As Inverter Validation Engineer within the Electric Center of Excellence you will be responsible for analyzing electrical inverter requirements, specifying and developing testing plans, electrical HW verifications, electrical component testing, electrical block testing and validation for such you will use inverter testing platforms such as power hardware in the loop (P-HIL), RL Load banks, High voltage workbenches etc. Used to validate embedded motor controls software and hardware integration related to high-speed electric motor control units. This includes detailed hardware, software and configuration setup and support to inverter validation process.

The role demands a high degree of contact with electrical hardware engineer, application software engineers, mechanical integration engineers and other design functions to deliver complex system solutions efficiently and in a timely manner.

You will be responsible for ensuring that the agreed systems are function to requirements at the point of delivery and for ensuring that issues and faults arising are dealt with rapidly.

In this position, the Inverter Validation Engineer is empowered to act autonomously, ensuring accountability, cost and other key programmed metrics.

You will have to:

Drive standardization & improvements across the globe & implement best practices globally.
Contribute to the identification, development & implementation of technical roadmap for hardware and software testing within the global eCOE Validation team.Develop validation plans, define test campaigns, perform testing for hardware and software integration such as acceptance testing, inductive load testing and characterization.
Responsibilities include:

Test HW communication interfaces to control ECU’s.
Provide rapid root cause failure analysis solutions.
Select electrical equipment, software and electronic components to perform electrical testing.
Develop control software in LabVIEW, CANoe or CANape to command motor controller.
Update solution based on requirement / feedback / issues.
Project ManagementBuild, follow & respect timing / cost (PO) of the project.
Global management of Best Practices & ProceduresWork within a project team
Write documentation (Test instructions, Validation plans, BOM’s, Intercommunication maps, electrical schematics)
Ensure respect, understanding and adherence to the VPD, Six Sigma and OIS tools and techniques in the Test Laboratory to drive Operational Excellence
Actively participate on technical upgrade and improvement of test equipment including its construction.
Education: 

BE or BEng Degree level or higher in Electrical, Electronics or Software engineering related.
Skills & Experience:

Minimum of 2 years of experience in validation/testing environment, preferably Automotive.
Understanding of National Instruments hardware and software including Veristand and LabVIEW FPGA
Knowledge of automotive communication protocols (e.g. CAN, LIN, Flex ray)
knowledge of scripting languages such as Python, CAPL, etc.
Use of calibration, diagnostic and measurement tools such as INCA, CANalyzer, CANape. Practical problem-solving approach.
High speed oscilloscope, power analyzers, and measurement devices
High speed signal generators
Additional experience in an engineering test environment is always beneficial.
